The American Silver Eagle

In 1996, the U.S mint released the 20th anniversary set of American Silver Eagles to commemorate the first American Silver Eagle struck in 1986. With a limit of 10 per household, the collection included the first ever reverse proof U.S coin. It sold for $100 dollars, and today the set is worth about $300 dollars. On August 15th, 2011 U.S. Mint Deputy Director Richard A. Peterson announced an October release date for the 25th anniversary set of silver eagles, creating a unique opportunity for collectors and investors to buy into the silver proof trend.

Due to their rarity and beauty, silver proof coins can prove to be a wise investment strategy. With the prices of silver on the rise with no end in sight, it is advisable to buy into this market if you have the money to do so. Many coin collectors look at annual proof sets as the foundation of their investment treasure, and will pay very high prices for silver proof that has not left its special protective packaging.
